Best Buy Cuts $300 Off the Samsung 55-Inch OLED TV
Best Buy has the Samsung S90D 55-inch OLED TV at $999, down from its usual $1,299. That price normally only shows up during Black Friday week, so seeing it in July is unusual.
Why the price dropped now
Samsung is preparing to launch its next OLED lineup at the end of summer. Retailers typically cut prices on current-generation TVs a few months before the new models arrive, both to clear shelf space and to stay competitive while the outgoing model is still the newest thing available.
What the S90D actually offers
- True OLED panel, so blacks are genuinely black, not just dimmed
- 144Hz refresh rate, useful if you're connecting a gaming PC or newer console
- Four HDMI 2.1 ports, which matters if you have several 4K devices to connect
- Samsung's Tizen smart TV software, which is fine but not as clean as Google TV or Roku
Who this deal is for
If you're buying a TV for a living room where you'll watch in a mix of daylight and evening light, OLED is worth it — the picture holds up in both conditions in a way cheaper LED panels don't. If your TV lives in a very bright, south-facing room all day, a bright LED or Mini-LED set might actually serve you better and cost less.
A note on extended warranties
Best Buy will offer a Geek Squad protection plan at checkout for around $150. For a TV in this price range, that's optional, not necessary. Most manufacturer defects show up in the first year, which is already covered by Samsung's standard warranty.
Where to buy
The deal is listed on Best Buy's website and in stores as of this week. Costco has run a similar price on the same panel bundled with a soundbar, so it's worth comparing if you already have a membership.
